In this historic 19th century American home in Bronxville, New York, the hand painted and hand embroidered wallcovering by Gracie lining the walls of the double entrance front to back foyer sets the tone for the color palette of the entire house. The one-of-a-kind 1960s Kalmar Tulipan chandelier from Austria was found during the first shopping trip with the client, and features layers of 73 heavily-seeded hand-blown glass ornaments in a rare champagne hue. Meg designed the custom circular entry table in Lilac Marble with modern, graphic veining to juxtapose the backdrop of traditional chinoiserie lined walls, and small vintage benches in the manner of Gio Ponti were recovered in a Holland & Sherry merino wool chenille, and sit under bronze wall lights from Ochre.
A stainless steel mirror from Poland adds a sculptural element to the entry on the other side of the foyer, further contrasting the traditional lines of the historic house to create interest.
Materials used - lilac marble, wool chenille, hand painted paper, blown glass, ceramic, suede.
The Dining Room is wrapped in glossy emerald green lacquer and features a custom Tadelakt plaster dining table in a natural white tone to counter the richness of the walls and trim. A Laurel Blossom chandelier from Rosie Li Studio shimmers in satin and polished brass, and iconic Fly Gaby wall lights by Pierre Chareau flank the fireplace and around a vintage 1970s pastel. The vintage 1960s Italian dining chairs add clean sculptural lines and a curved banquette in auberine leather surround an Art Deco table for additional seating to maximize entertaining.
The Living Room design developed into a collection of fascinating shapes with hits of colors derived from the Gracie foyer wallcovering that dance around the room. The Cameleonda sofa was requested by the client, and we chose this forest green mohair to contract the sky blue ceiling and textured seagrass rug. The handmade walnut, bronze, and glass coffee table by Caste Design centers the room, while another large seating area composed of a Dmitiry & Co. sofa paired with a blackened steel coffee table grounds the far perimeter of the room with a Vladimir Kagan swan floor lamp on one side, and a European marble and wood Art Deco table with a one of a kind ombre glazed ceramic lamp from Stone & Sawyer.
A pair of vintage 1930s Halabala stools were recovered in a tiffany blue alpaca/silk fabric by Sandra Jordan with a forest green silk cord., and an iconic 1970s Alky chair by Giancarlo Piretti for Artifort is covered in a snow white boucle that makes for cozy fireside seating.

The kitchen features a wall to wall banquette in a playful scalloped profile to provide ample seating for after school homework and casual meals. We rerouted the HVAC grilles and ducting along with the electrical outlets along the bottom of the millwork, and created upholstered seating and backs to provide extra comfort.
The sculptural giraffe chairs with three legs and the button tufted velvet pillows add interest of form to the functional space.
In the wood paneled library, modern furniture profiles were brought in to counter the traditionally clad walls. A Holly Hunt sofa with wood button tufting is wrapped in an alpaca fabric for softness, and a custom coffee table in Calacatta Viola marble cools down the rich wood tones of the room, while a pair of ebonized Paul McCobb side tables ground the space. A pair of French Concorde lounge chairs by Pierre Paulin for Artifort c. 1969 complete the main seating area.
A vintage Vladimir Kagan burlwood and lucite games table c. 1970 creates a fun place to relax by the window, and is complimented with a pair of 1940s Italian rabbit chairs recovered in a Holland & Sherry burgundy cotton velvet.
A Swedish set of porcelain tea light holders by Eszter Imre that appear to have torn edges creates a delicate juxtaposition against the wood paneling, and sit under artwork by Amanda Valdez, Always within, 2022. Hand woven textile, hand-dyed fabric, gouache, acrylic paint, and canvas, 24 x 22 inches, Denny Gallery - sourced by Mason Lane Art Advisory.
